The Bihar government has announced a major relief for farmers under the "Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana" (Chief Minister Agricultural Power Connection Scheme). As per the scheme, farmers will now receiveelectricity at just 55 paise per unit, aiming to make irrigation more accessible and farming more sustainable.
The state’s Agricultural Roadmap, the government has set a target of providing 8.40 lakh agricultural electricity connections by September 2026. So far, 5.81 lakh free connections have already been distributed. This reflects the government’s rapid progress in improving irrigation infrastructure in rural areas.
Currently, the actual electricity tariff is ₹6.74 per unit. However, the Bihar government is providing a subsidy of ₹6.19 per unit, enabling farmers to use electricity at a net cost of only 55 paise per unit. This is one of the lowest agricultural power rates in the country, significantly reducing the cost of cultivation.
