National Milk Day 2024: Promoting Livestock and Dairy Industry, to be celebrated in New Delhi

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, is organizing "National Milk Day" on November 26, 2024, at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. The event commemorates the 103rd birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, fondly known as the "Father of the White Revolution in India." It aims to highlight the contributions of the dairy sector to India's economy and nutritional security.

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, will preside over the event as the Chief Guest, along with Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel and Shri George Kurian, along with other dignitaries.

National Gopal Ratna Awards to Be Conferred:

  1. Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds.
  2. Best Artificial Insemination Technician.
  3. Best Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS)/Milk Producer Company/Dairy Farmer Producer Organization.

For the first time, special awards in all categories will be presented to winners from the North Eastern Region. Some of the awardees will share their experiences, shedding light on best practices, innovations, and sustainable approaches in the dairy sector.

Release of Two Key Publications:

  1. Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics (BAHS) 2023, providing critical insights into trends in the livestock and dairy sector, aiding evidence-based policymaking.
  2. Manual on the Identification of Elite Cows, offering guidance on creating a national herd of top-producing milch animals, reflecting the government's focus on technological advancements in animal husbandry.

Two Panel Discussions:

  1. Women-Led Livestock and Dairy Sector- focusing on the transformative role of women and emphasizing gender inclusivity.
  2. Empowering Farmers through Local Veterinary Support- discussing strategies to strengthen veterinary services and empower rural farmers.

Honoring Contributions to the Dairy Industry: The grand celebration will witness participation from farmers, dairy cooperatives, and other stakeholders across the nation. National Milk Day 2024 celebrates India’s leadership in the global dairy industry, emphasizing sustainable and inclusive growth in livestock and dairy sectors. It aims to recognize the dedication of dairy farmers and stakeholders, inspire innovation, and foster partnerships, serving as a platform for collaboration and progress.
