Cold weather likely to persist in Delhi and UP, forecast for temperature, cold wave, and dense fog across the country

According to the weather forecast, this season, the winter temperatures in North, Central, and Eastern India are expected to be higher than normal. In particular, some regions in North India may experience temperatures lower than the seasonal average.

Temperature Drop in North and Central India:

A sudden drop in temperature is expected between December 9 and 16 across northern and central parts of India. As per the forecast by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, temperatures in several regions, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, could drop by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius below normal. It is predicted that temperatures in Central and Eastern India will remain slightly below normal for the season. Residents in these regions are likely to experience colder conditions, and they have been advised to prepare in advance.

Rainfall Forecast: From December 10 to 13, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. From December 11 to 13, heavy rainfall is also likely in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Between December 12 and 14, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Kerala and Mahe.

Temperature, Cold Wave, and Dense Fog Forecast:

Over the next 3 days, a drop of 2-4°C in minimum temperatures is expected in Northwestern, Central, and Eastern India. After that, no significant temperature changes are expected. A cold wave is likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Western Uttar Pradesh on December 10 and 11. On December 10, cold wave conditions are expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. From December 10 to 13, cold wave conditions are also likely in East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Western Rajasthan.

Dense Fog Warnings in Various Cities:

Dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh during the late night and morning hours until December 10. Dense fog is also likely to persist until December 11 in West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram.

Three-Day Weather Forecast for Delhi/NCR:

1. December 10: Mainly clear sky, with surface winds likely to be from the northwest at a speed of less than 08 km/h in the morning. Smog or light to moderate fog may occur in the morning.
2. December 11: Mainly clear sky, with smog or light to moderate fog expected in the morning. Winds will increase to 10-12 km/h in the afternoon, reducing again to less than 08 km/h in the evening and night.
3. December 12: Clear sky with smog or mist in the morning. Winds will increase to 10-12 km/h during the afternoon, then decrease to less than 08 km/h in the evening and night.
