Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, inaugurated the 8th edition of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) at the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Auditorium, Pusa, New Delhi. During his address, Shri Goyal announced that India’s organic exports are projected to reach a total value of ₹20,000 crore within the next three years. The event also saw the launch of the NPOP Portal and Organic Promotion Portal, designed to enhance transparency and ease of operations for stakeholders in the organic farming sector.

Contributions by PM Modi and Home Minister Shah:

Shri Goyal highlighted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently underscored the importance of organic farming, starting from his first Parliamentary address. He also mentioned that the PM has emphasized the global relevance and far-reaching benefits of organic farming.

Additionally, Shri Goyal credited Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah for simplifying the application process for the electronic service portal, TraceNet 2.0, reducing costs, and enhancing transparency. This upgraded portal offers advanced tools for regulatory oversight and facilitates seamless operations for organic product stakeholders.

Benefits of Organic Farming:

The Minister noted that organic farming is a sustainable solution to tackle challenges such as water scarcity and the overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which degrade soil quality and crop productivity. Shri Goyal highlighted the government's priority to promote organic farming as a means to boost farmers' income and strengthen India’s position in the global organic market.

Focus on Marketing and Packaging of Organic Products: Shri Goyal stressed the importance of effective marketing and packaging strategies to ensure fair pricing for organic farmers. He emphasized that a robust value chain would not only boost employment opportunities but also elevate India’s global reputation in the organic sector.

The certification process for organic grower groups has been simplified, granting them legal status instead of relying on internal control systems. The program is expected to increase participation from farmers, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), and other key stakeholders in the organic value chain.

Participation and Impact: The event witnessed the participation of senior government representatives, farmer producer organizations, leading organic companies, and over 1,000 farmers from across the country. The initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of farmers, create global opportunities, and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices.

The National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) is poised to bring transformational changes to the organic farming ecosystem in India, ensuring environmental sustainability, farmer welfare, and economic growth.
