Launched on July 1, 2015, by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) aims to enhance water use efficiency at the farm level through micro-irrigation systems, such as drip and sprinkler irrigation. PMKSY not only aims to create assured irrigation sources but also to conserve rainwater at the micro level through water harvesting and saving measures. This scheme has four components: Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP), Per Drop More Crop (PDMC), Har Khet Ko Pani, and Watershed Development.
Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana:
- Increase the area covered under micro-irrigation techniques to enhance water use efficiency in the country.
- Improve crop productivity and farmers' income through precise water management.
- Promote micro-irrigation techniques in water-intensive crops such as sugarcane, banana, and cotton, and bring these crops under micro-irrigation techniques.
- Utilize micro-irrigation systems to promote fertigation.
- Promote micro-irrigation techniques in water-scarce, water-stressed, and critical groundwater blocks/districts.
- Promote, develop, and disseminate micro-irrigation technology with modern scientific knowledge for agriculture and horticulture development.
- Create employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled individuals, especially unemployed youth, for the installation and maintenance of micro-irrigation systems.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana:
- Provide financial assistance to farmers for the installation of irrigation components under micro-irrigation.
- Install drip or sprinkler irrigation systems on farmers' fields for selected crops.
- Farmers can install the irrigation system themselves or through an approved micro-irrigation company.
- Beneficiaries will receive assistance at the rate of 55% for small and marginal farmers and 45% for other farmers.
- Direct benefit transfer to farmers' accounts.
- Other interventions include benefits for water harvesting structures at individual and community levels, water lifting devices for conveyance efficiency, and farm pond excavation.
Eligibility for Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana:
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- All farmers from states and union territories are eligible for the scheme's benefits.
- The subsidy per beneficiary is limited to a total area of 5 hectares.

- Residence Certificate of State/Union Territory
Application Process: Farmers should contact their respective block/district agriculture office through their gram panchayat based on their field and area requirements. Additionally, farmers can also contact their block/district agriculture officer or call the farmer call center (toll-free number 1800-180-1551). Fill out the application form with all mandatory fields, attach a passport-size photo (signed), and enclose all required documents. Submit the filled and signed application form along with the documents to the specified authority. Obtain a receipt for the successfully submitted application form.
