PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spearheaded numerous initiatives to propel India towards development and prosperity. Among these initiatives is the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, designed to provide electricity to all citizens at minimal or zero cost. This scheme, also known as the Zero Bijli Bill initiative, aims to equip households across the country with solar power installations, alleviating the burden of electricity bills.

What is PM Surya Ghar Yojana:

The PM Surya Ghar Yojana involves the government offering subsidies for the installation of rooftop solar systems. Initially, this scheme will benefit approximately one crore families in India. The government's objective is to supply nearly one crore households with free electricity through the installation of solar systems. To finance this endeavor, the government has earmarked a budget of Rs. 75,000 crore, which will be disbursed as subsidies.

Achieving Zero Electricity Bills:

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, households that install rooftop solar systems will receive subsidies from the government. Additionally, households consuming more than 300 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free electricity. However, it's crucial to emphasize that the primary goal is to achieve zero or minimal-cost electricity bills. Furthermore, solar panels have the capacity to generate approximately 150 to 200 units of electricity.

Who are the Beneficiaries:

This scheme targets households with an annual income of less than Rs. 2 lakh. Eligible beneficiaries must possess houses with rooftops suitable for solar panel installation and valid electricity connections. Around one crore beneficiaries will directly benefit from this program. Free electricity will be provided to all households under this scheme, with a particular emphasis on installing solar panels on the rooftops of homes belonging to economically weaker sections and the middle class. Additionally, the government will provide subsidies for solar panel installations.

Subsidies for Solar Panel Installation:

The government is providing subsidies for the installation of solar systems. For instance, if you install a 2-kilowatt solar rooftop system, you will receive a subsidy of Rs. 18,000, and you will only need to pay Rs. 29,000.
