The Ministry of Rural Development has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since April 1, 2016. The scheme aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to all eligible rural families, aligning with the goal of Housing for All in rural areas. The initial target under the housing scheme was to construct 2.95 crore houses during the financial year 2016-17 to 2023-24.
Under PMAY-G, the Government of India has extended the scheme for five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29, with an aim to construct 2 crore additional houses. Approval has also been granted to update the Awaas+ list to identify eligible rural families based on revised exclusion criteria under the scheme.
In line with the Government of India's approval, a survey is underway to identify additional eligible rural families under the scheme. This survey is being conducted through the Awaas+ 2024 Mobile App, launched on September 17, 2024. The app facilitates both self-surveys and assisted surveys conducted by pre-registered surveyors.
To ensure effective use of the app, orientation workshops are being organized for registered surveyors. So far, more than 2 lakh surveyors and field functionaries across 26 states and 8 Union Territories implementing PMAY-G have been trained on the functionalities of the Awaas+ 2024 Mobile App.
