Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Integrated Aqua Parks have been developed as fisheries hubs. These parks encompass various aspects of the fisheries and aquaculture value chain. The concept envisions aqua parks as hubs for high-quality seed and feed production, pre- and post-harvest infrastructure, trade and commerce, logistics, marketing, export promotion, innovation, technology incubation, knowledge dissemination, and even recreational activities.
The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, has approved the establishment of 11 Integrated Aqua Parks across the country with a total cost of ₹682.6 crore, including a central share of ₹459.18 crore. These approvals span the last four financial years, from FY 2020-21 to FY 2023-24, and the current financial year, FY 2024-25.
As part of PMMSY, the Department of Fisheries has approved 116 projects for the Government of Tamil Nadu over the past five years. These projects, with a total cost of ₹1,156.15 crore, include a central government contribution of ₹448.65 crore.
