Arrival With of potatoes, prices have seen a rise in the wholesale market, Know the price of potatoes in major markets in January

Potato arrivals during the first 20 days of January 2025 have significantly dropped in major Indian wholesale markets, including Azadpur (Delhi), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Vashi (Navi Mumbai). Compared to January 2024, arrivals decreased by approximately 5,000 tons in Azadpur, 4,000 tons in Indore, and 1,000 tons in Vashi. This decline in supply has caused a notable surge in wholesale prices compared to the previous year.

January 2024, the average minimum price of potatoes in Azadpur Market was ₹200 per quintal, while the average maximum price was ₹1,555 per quintal. However, by January 2025, these prices escalated to ₹480 and ₹2,960 per quintal, respectively. This indicates a 140% increase in the average minimum price and a 90.38% rise in the average maximum price.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) market, the average minimum price in January 2024 was ₹470 per quintal, and the average maximum price was ₹1,154 per quintal. By January 2025, the prices rose to ₹1,214 and ₹2,060 per quintal, reflecting a 158.30% increase in the average minimum price and a 78.49% increase in the average maximum price.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), the average minimum price of potatoes in January 2024 stood at ₹717 per quintal, while the average maximum price was ₹816 per quintal. By January 2025, the prices surged to ₹1,382 and ₹1,486 per quintal, respectively, representing a 92.77% increase in the average minimum price and an 82.11% rise in the average maximum price.

January 2024, the average minimum price of potatoes in the Vashi market was ₹1,000 per quintal, and the maximum price was ₹1,682 per quintal. By January 2025, these figures climbed to ₹1,341 and ₹2,088 per quintal, marking a 34.1% increase in the average minimum price and a 24.14% rise in the average maximum price.

Government Initiatives for Farmers and Consumers: To stabilize prices and safeguard the interests of both farmers and consumers, the government has undertaken several preemptive measures. These include encouraging domestic production, fine-tuning import and export policies, and ensuring the overall availability and affordability of essential food items.
