Poverty-free villages to be established in India, target to build 10 lakh houses, know the government plan

Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the initiatives of the Rural Development Ministry will play a pivotal role in fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of a poverty-free India. While reviewing the ministry’s various projects on New Year’s Day in New Delhi, Shri Chouhan emphasized setting monthly goals for the ministry’s activities. He assured continued efforts to achieve these targets effectively.

Achievements of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin:

1. August 2024, the scheme was extended for the next five years (2024-29), targeting the construction of 2 crore additional houses.
2. Three significant changes were introduced in eligibility criteria to benefit more families and achieve the goal of “Housing for All.”
3. The Awas Plus-2024 Mobile App was launched by the Prime Minister in September 2024.
4. The Awas Sakhi App was launched by the Minister in October 2024.
5. The scheme received its highest-ever budget allocation of ₹54,500 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
6. Out of the target of 42 lakh houses, 31.65 lakh houses were sanctioned, and 4.19 lakh houses were completed between June and December 2024. This includes 71,000 houses under the PM Janman scheme.

January 2025 Targets:

• Sanctioning of 10 lakh pending houses under the target for 2024-25.
• Release of the first installment to beneficiaries.

Review of Other Schemes: During the review of programs such as MNREGA, PMGSY, PM-Awas, NRLM, DAY-NRLM, NSAP, and Disha, Shri Chouhan directed officials to work diligently to meet the set targets within the stipulated time frame. He stated, “Once a goal is set, achieving it becomes easier.”

Commitment to Poverty-Free Villages: Shri Chouhan expressed confidence in the Rural Development Ministry’s progress toward achieving its objectives. He assured that every effort would be made to meet the targets and bring prosperity to villages. He also extended his New Year’s wishes to the citizens of India.
