Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers' Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held pre-budget consultations with various stakeholders from the agricultural sector at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. During the meeting, farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), agricultural organizations, and other stakeholders presented several important suggestions.
Shri Chouhan emphasized that communication with all stakeholders related to the agricultural sector will continue to further strengthen the sector. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare is conducting an in-depth internal study to prepare solid proposals for the budget, which will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance soon. Additionally, several older schemes are under review. He stated that the suggestions provided by farmers and various organizations are vital, as these stakeholders, working at the grassroots level, gain valuable experience that benefits agricultural development.
Shri Chouhan noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has dedicated 109 new crop varieties developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to the nation. To further benefit farmers, the government is working on new initiatives, such as organizing Kisan Panchayats, an approach successfully implemented in Madhya Pradesh during Shri Chouhan's tenure as Chief Minister.
The government prioritizes incorporating the experiences and suggestions of stakeholders for the overall progress of the agriculture sector. These suggestions will help in formulating robust policies in areas like agricultural production, exports, research, and increasing farmers' incomes, ultimately leading to a more prosperous life for farmers.
