A three-day national training program focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for crop yield modeling the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is being organized from April 7 to 9, 2025, at Vigyan Bhawan, Bhopal. The training is being conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
Around 100 participants from Madhya Pradesh and other states across the country will take part in this program. The primary objective is to promote technological advancement in the agricultural sector and enable the effective implementation of AI and ML techniques in the crop insurance process.
During the three-day workshop, participants will receive hands-on training on various AI models such as SVM, Random Forest, Neural Networks, CNN, and XGBoost, as well as deep learning techniques. Expert trainers from the National Remote Sensing Centre (ISRO, Hyderabad), MPCST, Bhopal, and Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (New Delhi) will conduct the sessions.
The key objective of this training is to equip participants with the skills required to estimate crop yields accurately using remote sensing technologies. This initiative aims to enhance transparency in crop insurance claim settlements and strengthen the integration of tech-based solutions within the agricultural ecosystem.
Strengthening PMFBY through Space Technology:
PMFBY is one of the flagship schemes of the Government of India. Since 2022, Madhya Pradesh has been leveraging space technology for its implementation. This initiative is being led by MPCST, in coordination with the National Remote Sensing Centre (ISRO), the Agriculture Department of the Madhya Pradesh Government, and MPSEDC.
Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to successfully integrate space technology in the crop insurance domain. Furthermore, MPCST is also acting as a technical partner for the Agriculture Department of the Government of Rajasthan under this initiative.
