Top Nine new High yielding rice varieties unveiled by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 109 high-yielding, climate-resistant, and biofortified crop varieties at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi. These varieties play a crucial role in the agricultural and horticultural sectors of the country. The 109 varieties include 61 different crops, of which 34 are field crops and 27 are horticultural crops.

These Rice Varieties Will Boost Farmers Income:

The new crop varieties released by the Prime Minister will play a significant role in enhancing the future of Indian agriculture. These varieties are climate-resistant, high-yielding, and nutritionally fortified. They will not only boost crop production but also increase farmers' income and strengthen the nation's food security.

New Varieties of Rice and Their Features:

  1. CR Dhan 416 (IET 30201) - This variety of rice was developed by the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha. It is suitable for the states of West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. This variety is ideal for coastal saline areas, has a yield of 48.97 quintals per hectare, matures in 125-130 days, and is moderately resistant to diseases like brown plant hoppers, grasshoppers, and stem borers.

  2. CR DHAN 810 (IET 30409) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha. It is suitable for the states of Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam. This variety is ideal for rainfed shallow lowland areas, has a yield of 42.38 quintals per hectare, matures in 150 days, and shows moderate resistance to brown spot disease, leaf folder, and stem borer (dead heart).
  3. CR Dhan 108 (IET 29052) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha. It is suitable for the states of Odisha and Bihar. This variety is ideal for early direct-seeded rainfed conditions, has a yield of 34.46 quintals per hectare, matures in 110-114 days, and shows moderate resistance to leaf blast, neck blast, sheath blight, and plant hoppers, with moderate tolerance to drought.
  4. CSR 101 (IET-30827) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana. It is suitable for the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. This variety is ideal for irrigated alkaline or saline stress areas, has a yield of 55.88 quintals per hectare under normal conditions, matures in 125-130 days, and is resistant to salinity and bacterial blight.
  5. Swarna Purvi Dhan 5 IET 29036 (RCPR 68-IR83929-B-B-291-2-1-1-2) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar. It is suitable for the states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. This variety is ideal for direct-seeded conditions in rainfed dry areas, has a yield of 43.69 quintals per hectare under normal conditions, 29.02 quintals per hectare under moderate drought, matures in 110-115 days, and shows tolerance to major pests like stem borer, gall midge, and leaf folder.
  6. DRR Dhan 73 (IET 30242)- This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. It is suitable for the states of Karnataka, Odisha, and Telangana. This variety is ideal for irrigated and rainfed shallow lowland areas, with low soil phosphorus levels, suitable for both Kharif and Rabi seasons, has a yield of 60 quintals per hectare under normal conditions, matures in 120-125 days, and shows moderate resistance to leaf blast.
  7. DRR Dhan 74 (IET 30252)- This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. It is suitable for the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand, and other regions with phosphorus-deficient soils in India. This variety is ideal for irrigated and rainfed shallow lowland areas, with low soil phosphorus levels, suitable for both Kharif and Rabi seasons, has a yield of 70 quintals per hectare under normal conditions with the recommended dose of 60 kg/hectare phosphorus, matures in 130-135 days, and shows moderate tolerance to leaf blast, neck blast, sheath rot, and plant hoppers.
  8. DRR Dhan 78 (IET 30240) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. It is suitable for the states of Karnataka and Telangana. This variety is ideal for irrigated and rainfed shallow lowland areas, with low soil phosphorus levels, suitable for both Kharif and Rabi seasons, has a yield of 58 quintals per hectare under normal conditions, matures in 120-125 days, and shows moderate resistance to leaf blast and plant hoppers.
  9. KKL (R) 4 (IET 30697) (KR 19011) - This rice variety was developed by the ICAR-AICRP on Rice, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute, Karaikal, Puducherry (UT). It is suitable for the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry. This variety is ideal for submerged stress conditions, has a yield of 38 quintals per hectare under stress conditions, 56 quintals per hectare under normal conditions, matures in 120-125 days, and shows moderate resistance to leaf blast.
