Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various development projects worth approximately Rs 12,100 crore in Darbhanga, Bihar. He stated that these projects will ease the lives of Bihar’s citizens and open new pathways for development.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of AIIMS in Darbhanga, which he described as a crucial step towards transforming Bihar’s healthcare sector. The new AIIMS will benefit patients from Mithila, Kosi, Tirhut, and parts of West Bengal, along with neighbouring Nepal. PM Modi highlighted that the facility will create new opportunities for jobs and self-employment and provides enhanced medical facilities to the people of Bihar. He further added that over the last decade, the number of medical colleges in the country has doubled, and Darbhanga AIIMS will enable young doctors from Bihar to serve the nation. The Prime Minister informed that 100,000 medical seats have been added in the past decade.
Benefits of the 'One District, One Product' Scheme for Makhana Producers: The Prime Minister remarked that the 'One District, One Product' scheme has been beneficial for Makhana producers in Bihar. He informed that the Makhana Research Center has received national status, and the Makhana itself has been awarded a GI tag, boosting the industry’s global recognition.
The Prime Minister stated that the government has adopted a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on disease prevention, accurate diagnosis, affordable treatment and medicines, and expanding healthcare facilities in smaller towns. He mentioned the establishment of over 1.5 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to aid in the early detection of diseases. PM Modi noted that this scheme has alleviated the concerns of many low-income individuals, and now senior citizens are also eligible for free treatment under the scheme. Beneficiaries will soon be issued an ‘Ayushman Vayo Vandana Card.’
Flood Control Projects Worth Rs 11,000 Crore in Kosi and Mithila Regions: Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to flood control in the Kosi and Mithila regions. In this year’s budget, a comprehensive flood management plan for Bihar was announced. He noted that flood control projects worth Rs 11,000 crore, in collaboration with Nepal, are now underway to address this persistent issue.
