The Minister of Rural Development and Labour, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, emphasized that organic and natural farming are India’s traditional agricultural practices, which are being consistently promoted. Addressing the "Regional Seminar on Organic and Natural Farming" held in Jabalpur, he highlighted the importance of organic and natural farming for sustainable agriculture.

The seminar, organized by the Regional Organic and Natural Farming Centre, witnessed the participation of numerous farmers. Shri Patel referred to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's call to embrace "Shri Anna" (millets) to safeguard the planet. He stated that millets, categorized as superior grains, require minimal water for cultivation—just 1 liter for 1 kilogram of millets compared to 28 liters for wheat and 37 liters for rice production.

Preserving Soil Fertility through Organic Farming:

Shri Patel underscored the necessity of organic farming to preserve the declining fertility of agricultural lands. He advocated for the use of cow dung, describing it as an unparalleled resource for enhancing soil fertility. He also suggested that farming based on the honesty and dedication of farmers should not require external certifications, as farmers’ integrity itself ensures the authenticity of organic produce.

Importance of Livestock in Organic Farming:

The Minister stressed that organic and natural farming are incomplete without livestock. He highlighted the significance of indigenous cows, not only as an economic asset but also for maintaining peace and prosperity in families. He called cow dung a boon for farming, capable of revitalizing soil health and boosting agricultural productivity.

Addressing Challenges and Seeking Solutions: The seminar also shed light on the challenges faced by organic and natural farming. Shri Patel emphasized the need to encourage farmers and increase awareness about the benefits of organic farming for a sustainable future.

A Step towards Environmental Conservation: Dr. Ajay Singh Rajput, Director of the Regional Organic and Natural Farming Centre, along with other dignitaries, shared valuable insights during the seminar. The event saw enthusiastic participation from farmers who explored the intricacies of organic farming. It was highlighted that organic farming is not only a method to conserve the environment but also a way to enhance food production and improve its quality.
