The Indian government is hopeful for a good yield of Rabi crops in the current season (July 2023-June 2024), especially regarding wheat cultivation, and is in contact with the states. This information was shared by the Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Arjun Munda. Speaking from a business perspective, the minister stated, "We are urging the states to ensure no shortage in the sowing of wheat and other Rabi crops and to provide all necessary assistance to farmers in planting activities. I am optimistic about a good Rabi crop this year.

He mentioned that the central government is closely monitoring the situation in all states, including Karnataka, where there is a lack of water for irrigation, and Tamil Nadu, which was recently affected by heavy rainfall in southern districts due to Cyclone Michu and this week. States that are major producers of winter crops have already indicated that there is no concern about the acreage of wheat. During the ongoing season, more than 92% of the normal area of 307.32 lakh hectares for wheat cultivation has been sown by December 15. According to the latest figures, the wheat acreage has reached 284.15 lakh hectares, which is 3% less than the 293.01 lakh hectares sown a year ago. Last year, the total wheat acreage was 343.23 lakh hectares, slightly more than in 2021. As of December 15, the total area sown under all Rabi crops during 2023 has reached 567.04 lakh hectares, which is approximately 90% of the normal area.
