MSP for Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26

This Diwali brings a significant bonus for Indian farmers. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all major Rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. The decision aims to ensure farmers receive profitable prices for their produce.

Marketing Season 2025-26 MSP Rates for Rabi Crops (Prices in quintals):

Rabi Crop 2023-24 2024-25 2025-26
Wheat  ₹2,125  ₹2,275 ₹2,425
Barley  ₹1,735 ₹1,850 ₹1,980
Gram (Chana) ₹5,335  ₹5,440  ₹5,650
Rapeseed & Mustard ₹5,450 ₹5,650 ₹5,950

Highest MSP Increase

The most substantial MSP increase has been granted to Rapeseed and Mustard, with an increment of ₹300 per quintal. Lentils (Masoor) also saw a significant rise of ₹275 per quintal. Additionally, MSP for Gram (Chana), Wheat, Safflower, and Barley increased by ₹210, ₹150, ₹140, and ₹130 per quintal, respectively. The hike in MSP for Rabi crops follows the government’s 2018-19 budget announcement, which assured an MSP 1.5 times the all-India weighted average production cost. The new MSP rates offer 105% profit margin for Wheat, 98% for Rapeseed and Mustard, 89% for Lentils, 60% for Gram and Barley, and 50% for Safflower. This increase ensures better returns for farmers and promotes crop diversification.

Current Market Prices of Wheat and Mustard

In major markets, Wheat is currently fetching higher-than-MSP prices. In Delhi's Narela Mandi, the average price is ₹2,755 per quintal, while Ganjbasoda Mandi in Madhya Pradesh reports ₹2,705 per quintal, and Lucknow Mandi in Uttar Pradesh is at ₹2,697 per quintal — around ₹300 higher than the current MSP. As for Mustard, Delhi's Narela Mandi reports an average price of ₹6,100 per quintal, Ganjbasoda Mandi in Madhya Pradesh stands at ₹5,500 per quintal, and Lucknow Mandi lists ₹5,700 per quintal, aligning closely with the current MSP.

Farmers to Benefit from the MSP Increase

This decision is a major step towards ensuring fair prices for farmers, enhancing stability in the agricultural sector. The MSP hike will not only improve farmers' incomes but also motivate them to invest more in production, further strengthening the country’s agricultural output.

Conclusion : Overall, the increased MSP for the 2025-26 Rabi marketing season will bring significant benefits to farmers across the country. This move reflects the government's commitment to empowering farmers economically, ensuring higher incomes, and guiding them towards a more stable and prosperous future.
