The weather in Bihar is fluctuating, with sunshine in some regions and cloud cover appearing in others.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a rain and thunderstorm alert has been issued for 23 districts of the state. These include West Champaran, East Champaran, Patna, Gopalganj, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Jehanabad, Arwal, Kaimur, Rohtas, Bhojpur, and Buxar. The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall along with thunder, lightning, and strong winds in these districts. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, which could cause local disturbances. Residents are advised to stay updated and take precautions, especially in open areas.
The sudden rain has caused damage to standing crops. In the past 24 hours, Bhagalpur received the highest rainfall of 18.4 mm, followed by 10.5 mm in Purnia and 10 mm in Gopalganj. This unexpected rainfall has badly affected maize (corn) crops, and farmers are facing difficulty in drying wheat, which needs proper sunlight after harvesting.
The Patna Weather Centre has explained that the collision of moist winds from the Bay of Bengal with western disturbances is causing the unstable weather. These conditions lead to the formation of thunderclouds. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect Bihar around April 17, which may bring more rain and storms in the coming days.
Patna Weather Update: For the capital city Patna, today’s weather may include rain and thunderstorms. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34°C, and the minimum temperature around 24°C.
Safety Advice: The IMD has urged people to stay indoors during bad weather and follow safety instructions issued by the Disaster Management Department. Avoid standing under trees or in open fields during lightning, and stay safe until the weather improves.
