Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved and released the Second Advance Estimates of major agricultural crop production for Kharif and Rabi seasons for the year 2024-25. He emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously working towards the development of the agricultural sector. Various schemes implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare have significantly contributed to record agricultural production, offering support and incentives to farmers.

Verification and Validation of Production Estimates:

The crop area data received from the states has been verified using Remote Sensing Technology, Weekly Crop Weather Watch Group reports, and other agencies. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare consulted industry experts and representatives from government departments to incorporate their insights into the estimates. The yield estimates have been prepared based on Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs), previous trends, and other determining factors.

Estimated Production of Major Crops (Kharif & Rabi):

  1. Kharif Foodgrains: 1663.91 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT)
  2. Rabi Foodgrains (excluding summer crops): 1645.27 LMT
  3. Kharif Rice: 1206.79 LMT (Record Production)
  4. Rabi Rice (excluding summer crops): 157.58 LMT

Wheat & Coarse Cereals:

  1. Wheat: 1154.30 LMT (Record Production)
  2. Kharif Maize: 248.11 LMT (Record Production)
  3. Rabi Maize: 124.38 LMT
  4. Shree Anna (Millets) Kharif: 137.52 LMT
  5. Shree Anna (Millets) Rabi: 30.81 LMT
  6. Chickpea (Gram): 115.35 LMT
  7. Pigeon Pea (Tur): 35.11 LMT
  8. Lentil: 18.17 LMT

Oilseeds Production:

  1. Kharif Oilseeds: 276.38 LMT
  2. Rabi Oilseeds (excluding summer crops): 140.31 LMT
  3. Kharif Groundnut: 104.26 LMT (Record Production)
  4. Rabi Groundnut: 8.87 LMT
  5. Soybean: 151.32 LMT (Record Production)
  6. Rapeseed & Mustard: 128.73 LMT

Other Key Crops:

  1. Sugarcane: 4350.79 LMT
  2. Cotton: 294.25 Lakh Bales (170 kg each)
  3. Jute: 83.08 Lakh Bales (180 kg each)

Significant Increase in Rice and Wheat Production: The Kharif Rice production is estimated at 1206.79 LMT, marking an increase of 74.20 LMT compared to the previous year's (2023-24) production of 1132.59 LMT. Similarly, Rabi Rice production is estimated at 157.58 LMT. The production of Wheat is projected to reach 1154.30 LMT, an increase of 21.38 LMT compared to 1132.92 LMT recorded in the previous year.

Strong Growth in Soybean and Groundnut Production: The estimated Soybean production is 151.32 LMT, which is 20.70 LMT higher than last year’s 130.62 LMT. Additionally, Kharif Groundnut production is expected to reach 104.26 LMT, 17.66 LMT higher than the previous year’s 86.60 LMT.
