West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that her government has disbursed 197 crore rupees on Tuesday for 2.46 lakh farmers in the state who couldn't plant rice due to low rainfall. She mentioned that this financial assistance is provided under the Bangla Shasya Bima (Crop Insurance) scheme. Since the initiation of this scheme in 2019, the state government has already disbursed 2400 crore rupees to 85 lakh farmers.
Mamata posted on social media, "We are releasing 197 crore rupees for 2.46 lakh affected farmers who couldn't sow rice due to low rainfall. The last installment of claims under Bangla Shasya Bima has been settled and this is a fully state-funded crop insurance scheme, and we pay the entire premium amount. There is no need for farmers to make any payments.
