As winter tightens its grip, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a dense fog warning for various regions across the country. Isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana are expected to experience dense fog on the 18th, 21st, and 22nd of December 2023. Simultaneously, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura will witness this weather phenomenon from the 18th to the 20th of December during the morning hours, urging residents and travellers to exercise caution on the roads.
Temperatures Drop:
This weather development is accompanied by a drop in minimum temperatures ranging from 5-10°C in significant parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and extending into some areas of north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh (including cities like Rewa, Satna, Gwalior, Sagar), north Chhattisgarh, western regions of Gangetic West Bengal, north interior Odisha, and Bihar. The chill in the air amplifies the need for residents to bundle up and stay warm, especially in the early morning and late evening hours.
Rain in South, Fog in North:
Adding to the meteorological nuances, heavy rainfall has been observed at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. While these areas experience wet conditions, the northern parts of the country brace themselves for the dual challenge of dense fog and plummeting temperatures.
