Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Brace for Intense Heatwave Starting Today
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave alert for Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, effective over the next five days. According to the forecast, both regions will experience extreme temperatures, with Delhi potentially seeing its first heatwave of the season on May 18, when temperatures are expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius.
As of today, May 16, Delhi will start experiencing a significant rise in temperature, accompanied by strong hot winds. The IMD predicts that the maximum temperature in the capital will reach 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be above 24 degrees Celsius. A further increase of 2 to 3 degrees in the maximum temperature and 1 to 2 degrees in the minimum temperature is expected by tomorrow. The likelihood of a heatwave on May 18 remains high.
In Uttar Pradesh, cities including Agra, Jhansi, and Prayagraj are expected to endure severe heat from May 17 to 19. Additionally, cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and Ayodhya are forecasted to experience extreme heat and heatwave conditions on May 18 and 19.
Today, May 16, Lucknow will see clear skies with scorching temperatures. The maximum temperature is expected to hit 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will reach 27 degrees Celsius. Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave, such as staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and using protective measures against heat exposure.
