Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, emphasized the promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to empower small and marginal farmers under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at the FPO Fair held at Delhi Haat INA, Minister Chauhan visited various stalls, interacted with FPO operators and farmers, and took suggestions.
Minister Chauhan stressed that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the welfare of farmers is of utmost priority. The government is ensuring that farmers associated with FPOs have a robust platform to sell their produce, enabling them to maximize profits and get fair prices for their products. He highlighted the bright future of FPOs and noted that the government is successfully working towards establishing ten thousand new FPOs across the country.
The FPO Fair saw participation from FPOs from Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Bihar. These FPOs are being integrated with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Minister Chauhan referred to the FPO community as a large family that will progress together. He affirmed the central government's strong support for strengthening farmers through FPOs and urged them to leverage benefits from the Agri Infra Fund of one lakh crore rupees along with other central schemes for economic empowerment.
