Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha on July 23, 2024. This budget places a special emphasis on India's economy and the development of women's employment. Sitharaman highlighted efforts to ensure fair prices for farmers and the continuation of free ration distribution. The overall budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 exceeds ₹32 lakh crore.
Finance Minister Sitharaman outlined plans to increase the participation of women in the workforce. In her seventh budget, she announced significant measures for women's development, allocating more than ₹3 lakh crore. This allocation aims to promote women's employment and provide opportunities for working women, enhancing employment and skill training. Additionally, the government plans to reduce stamp duty for women.
The budget discussed several schemes aimed at benefiting the general public and farmers. Sitharaman allocated ₹10 lakh crore for the urban housing scheme, under which 1 crore new houses will be built in urban areas. The PM Surya Ghar Yojana will provide 1 crore youths with internships and a monthly stipend of ₹5,000. Additionally, the scheme will supply 300 units of free electricity to 1 crore households. The limit for Mudra loans has been increased from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh.
