Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a significant meeting today with farmers and representatives from various farmers' organizations across different states. The primary aim of this discussion was to address several critical issues related to agriculture and the welfare of farmers.
During the meeting, Shri Chouhan shared details about the recent cabinet decision to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops. He highlighted that this decision, made under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is a vital step towards enhancing farmers' incomes and improving their living standards. Farmers proposed the establishment of "Model Agricultural Farming" to aid small landholders in understanding profitable farming techniques. They shared successful examples of farmers who have managed to cultivate profitably on one-acre plots.
The meeting also focused on pressing issues such as water supply, fertilizer usage, soil health management, challenges posed by natural disasters, the closure of sugar mills, and problems related to stray animals. Additionally, farmers emphasized the need to promote millets, also known as "Shree Anna."
Shri Chouhan assured the farmers that their suggestions would be taken seriously and efforts would be made to address them. He mentioned that issues pertaining to state governments would be forwarded to the respective states, while matters related to the central government would be acted upon by the appropriate departments.
Importance of Open Dialogue with Farmers: The Union Minister stated, "Open dialogue with farmers is essential, as it provides us with accurate information about ground-level issues and ensures that government schemes effectively reach the farmers."
He also expressed gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini for the decision to purchase all 23 crops at the declared MSP, deeming it a farmer-friendly move.
This meeting marked another important step in strengthening the dialogue between farmers and the government, with a particular focus on improving agricultural practices and farmer welfare.
