Bhopal Additional District Magistrate, Mr. Siddharth Jain, has invoked powers under the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, to impose a complete ban on burning wheat stubble (Nirwai/Parali) within the district's geographical limits for the next three months.
According to the issued order, stubble burning is not only detrimental to agriculture but also poses a severe threat to the environment. In previous years, several major fire incidents have resulted in substantial loss of life and property. Uncontrolled fires can damage public assets, natural vegetation, and wildlife, leading to extensive destruction.
Moreover, the natural microorganisms in the soil, which enhance its fertility, are destroyed by stubble burning, gradually degrading soil quality and reducing crop yields. Crop residues and straw left in the fields naturally decompose and enrich the soil. Burning them not only depletes essential nutrients but also leads to the emission of harmful gases, significantly contributing to air pollution.
Legal Consequences
This order has been enforced with immediate effect. Any violation of the directive will result in strict legal action under the Indian Civil Protection Code.
Administrative Responsibility
All sub-divisional officers, municipal officers, and other relevant authorities are responsible for ensuring strict compliance with this order in their respective jurisdictions. The directive will also be prominently displayed on the notice boards of relevant offices and police stations for public awareness.
Appeal to Farmers for Sustainable Practices
The administration has urged farmers to refrain from stubble burning and adopt eco-friendly farming practices to maintain soil fertility. Raising awareness and collective efforts are crucial to safeguarding both the environment and agriculture.
