To protect the environment, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has prohibited the burning of crop residues (stubble) in fields. In compliance with these directives, the district administration, led by Satna Collector Anurag Verma and Maihar Collector Rani Batad, has issued orders to curb pollution and fire incidents caused by stubble burning. Sub-divisional magistrates have been instructed to impose immediate fines on offenders, prepare detailed reports of such incidents, and initiate punitive actions against violators.
The Deputy Director of Farmers' Welfare and Agriculture Development stated that the Agriculture Engineering Directorate in Bhopal conducted satellite monitoring. Between November 19 and November 24, 223 cases of stubble burning were recorded in various subdivisions of the district.
Breakdown of Incidents by Subdivision:
The Deputy Director of Agriculture shared the satellite monitoring report with the respective sub-divisional magistrates, urging them to act per the District Magistrate’s guidelines. Strict measures, including fines and legal actions, have been recommended to address these violations.
Appeal to Protect the Environment: Burning stubble severely harms the environment, contributing to high levels of air pollution. The administration has appealed to farmers to refrain from stubble burning and adopt alternative solutions provided by the government. These measures will not only protect the environment but also ensure the optimal use of crop residues.
