How to Protect Crops in Summer, Essential Tips for Farmers

The summer season has started, and temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days. Farmers need to take proper care of their crops to protect them from heat and pests. Here are some important guidelines:

Spraying Solutions for Crop Care:

1. To protect wheat crops, spray 2% potassium nitrate or 0.2% muriate of potash.
2. For tomato, chili, and eggplant crops, use 2% naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) to ensure proper fruit development.
3. Harvest mustard and rapeseed crops when 75-80% of the pods turn brown to prevent losses.

Sowing of Moong Beans:

1. Use high-yield varieties like Pusa Vishal, Pusa Ratna, Samrat, SML-668, etc.
2. Treat seeds with rhizobium and phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria before sowing.
3. Ensure the soil has enough moisture at the time of sowing.

Protection Against Pests in Crops and Vegetables:

1. Install bird perches in fields to control fruit borer pests in tomato, pea, chickpea, and eggplant crops.
2. Use pheromone traps (2-3 traps per acre) to monitor pests.
3. If pest infestation is high, spray B.T. (1g per liter of water) for control.
4. For aphid attacks, spray imidacloprid (0.25 ml per liter of water) after harvesting ripe fruits.

Disease Prevention:

1. If signs of powdery mildew appear in peas and vine crops, spray carbendazim (1g per liter of water).
2. Monitor onion crops for thrips attacks and apply Dithane M-45 if needed.

Vegetable Sowing for Summer Season:

1. The current temperature is favorable for sowing okra, bottle gourd, cucumber, ridge gourd, amaranth, and radish (Pusa Chetki).
