Rice cultivation is ubiquitous across the country, offering farmers the potential for increased yields through the adoption of superior rice varieties. As a primary crop for the Kharif season, rice cultivation typically commences with nursery sowing in June in most regions. Given the water-intensive nature of rice cultivation, effective water management is paramount. Concurrently, adopting premium varieties like the Sahyadri Kembumukti rice strain can lead to improved yields due to its rapid maturation, facilitating expedited harvesting.

Distribution of Sahyadri Kembumukti Seeds:

The agriculture department has developed the Sahyadri Kembumukti variety with the objective of bolstering production. Plans are in place to cultivate the Sahyadri Kembumukti strain across approximately 9390 hectares. Distribution of Sahyadri Kembumukti seeds among farmers is slated to commence soon. According to a report by The Times of India, the pricing of this new variety is notably high in the market, prompting farmers to appeal to the government for price reductions. Sahyadri Kembumukti is esteemed for its high yield potential, averaging approximately 20-25 quintals per acre.

Distinctive Attributes of Sahyadri Kembumukti:

Renowned for its rapid maturation compared to the EM-4 variety, Sahyadri Kembumukti is harvest-ready even before traditional cutting stages, setting it apart in terms of efficiency. Alongside the Sahyadri Kembumukti strain, the agriculture department has also stocked other varieties such as Jay, Jyoti, EM-4, and Uma. According to Kempe Gowda, the joint director of the agriculture department, significant quantities of seeds for distribution have been procured, including 60.5 quintals of Jay, 65.5 quintals of Jyoti, 198 quintals of EM-4, and 180 quintals of Sahyadri Kembumukti.

Government Subsidies: In an effort to support farmers, the government is offering subsidies amounting to Rs 800 per ton of seeds. Farmers stand to receive subsidies of Rs 3,850 per quintal for Jay, Rs 4,600 for Jyoti, Rs 3,925 for Uma, and Rs 4,750 for EM-4 and Sahyadri Kembumukti.
