The government will integrate 28 new wholesale markets (mandis) with the online trading platform eNAM, bringing the total number of mandis in the country to 1,389. Currently, there are 1,361 regulated mandis across 23 states and four Union Territories," said Agriculture Secretary Manoj Ahuja during a workshop on eNAM 2.0.
Ahuja emphasized the importance of providing timely and crucial information to stakeholders of eNAM. He stated, "Eliminating information asymmetry is vital. Information related to the quality of produce is as important for buyers as the prices of commodities are for sellers.
He also mentioned, "From an economic perspective, the entire price discovery mechanism should be made efficient, and wastage should be reduced. eNAM 2.0, an advanced version of the existing eNAM, will play a significant role in the success of eNAM through improvements in state laws.
Fazl Ahmad Kidwai, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, noted that eNAM 2.0 would bring enhancements and improvements to the existing eNAM system, with particular importance placed on amendments to state laws for the success of eNAM 2.0.
