The state government is ensuring adequate availability of fertilizers to provide farmers with high-quality inputs for Rabi crops on time. Farmers are encouraged to use NPK fertilizers, which are of equal quality to DAP, and to refrain from burning crop residue. It is crucial to prevent illegal hoarding and substandard sales of fertilizers and seeds across the state. Farmers will be provided with all possible facilities for selling soybeans at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Agriculture Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Suleiman issued these directives during a review meeting held at Narmada Bhawan for the Kharif 2024 assessment and preparations for Rabi 2024-25 in the Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions. The meeting reviewed the activities of various departments, including agriculture, cooperation, animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries, and horticulture.
Mr. Suleiman stated that the registration process for farmers to sell soybeans at the MSP is ongoing. Purchases will commence on October 25 and will continue until December 31. Farmers will receive tokens to avoid unnecessary waiting times. Additional purchase centers will be opened as needed within one to two days for the convenience of farmers.
Secretary Mr. Shailvendraan highlighted that Madhya Pradesh is a leading state in the agricultural sector. The state ranks first in pulses production, contributing 24% of the national output. It stands second in grain production with 12% and in oilseed production with 20%. The agricultural growth rate of the state is 19%, and Madhya Pradesh has the largest area under organic farming in the country, covering approximately 1.65 million hectares.
In the state, Rabi crops primarily include mustard, chickpeas, lentils, and wheat. All collectors have been instructed to prevent the burning of crop residue in their districts and to encourage farmers to use super seeders. The use of super seeders allows for simultaneous harvesting and sowing, utilizing the remaining moisture in the soil for the next crop and reducing seed requirements, which is highly beneficial for farmers. The availability of super seeders will be ensured for farmers in all districts.
During the review of the horticulture department, it was noted that there is an increase in the area under horticultural crops. Farmers are making significant profits by cultivating high-value fruits like avocado, Thai pink guava, and dragon fruit. The marketing of guava, dragon fruit, and oranges is being carried out in major metropolitan areas such as Delhi and Mumbai. The cultivation of roses, gerberas, and high-quality vegetables is being conducted using advanced techniques in polyhouses and shade net houses, resulting in increased production and income.
