In the Medak district of Telangana, one farmer has struck a jackpot by earning 2 crore rupees in the last month alone by selling tomatoes. He is now prepared to harvest another crop worth 1 crore rupees.
Mahipal Reddy, a farmer from Banswada Mahipal Reddy in the Kowdipally Mandal of Medak district, has become a millionaire overnight due to the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes. With tomato prices reaching up to 150 rupees per kilogram in the market and a shortage of adequate supply from neighboring Madanpalle in Andhra Pradesh and other places, Mahipal Reddy fulfilled the demand in the Hyderabad market.
He sold his produce in the wholesale market for 100 rupees per kilogram. During the last month, he sold nearly 8,000 boxes of tomatoes, each weighing more than 25 kilograms. The 40-year-old farmer, who dropped out of school, has emerged as an ideal for everyone. For the past four years, the farmer has been cultivating tomatoes on 40 acres of land. Initially, he faced losses, but he did not give up. He sought advice from his friends in other states who suggested using shade netting techniques for better crops. He adopted it to reduce the temperature, resulting in improved and higher yields.
