These varieties are distinguished by features such as high dry matter content, excellent storage capacity, and disease resistance, ensuring significant benefits for agricultural productivity. Kufri Chipsona-5 is a high-yielding potato variety, capable of producing up to 35 tons per hectare, primarily suited for chip-making. Developed by the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, this variety is vegetatively propagated and ideal for cultivation in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. This variety produces oval, cream-colored tubers with shallow to medium eyes and creamy flesh. Kufri Chipsona-5 matures in 90-100 days and has excellent storage potential under ambient conditions. It contains 21% tuber dry matter and less than 100 mg of sugar per 100 grams of fresh weight, making it an excellent choice for processing, especially for producing high-quality chips.
Kufri Jamunia is a high-yielding potato variety, primarily suited for table use. Developed by the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, this variety is suitable for cultivation in Haryana, Punjab, the plains of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar. The tubers of Kufri Jamunia have a dark purple color, shallow eyes, and purple flesh, making it visually distinctive. This variety matures in 90-100 days and is rich in antioxidants such as ascorbic acid, carotenoids, and anthocyanins. Its high dry matter content ensures good storage quality, making it an excellent choice for farmers seeking a dependable and nutritious table potato.
Kufri Bhaskar is a heat-tolerant potato variety with resilience to mite and hopper burn, making it well-suited for challenging climates. Developed by the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, this variety is ideal for cultivation in Haryana, Punjab, and the plains of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. This early-to-medium maturing variety is ready for harvest within 85-90 days and delivers a high yield potential of 30-35 tons per hectare. The tubers are oval-shaped with a white-cream color, shallow to medium eyes, and creamy flesh. Kufri Bhaskar offers excellent storage properties, allowing it to be stored for extended periods under ambient conditions.
