Launch Urban Land Tech Workshop

Union Minister for Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will inaugurate the International Workshop on Modern Technologies for Urban Land Records on October 21, 2024, at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC) in New Delhi. This two-day event is being organized by the Department of Land Resources.

Focus on Global Best Practices in Urban Land Record Modernization

The workshop will discuss global practices in digital land records. On the first day, after the inaugural session, experts from countries like Singapore, Korea, the UK, Spain, and the Netherlands will share their experiences and insights. Additionally, leading Indian and international companies will participate in a technology showcase and exhibition. On the second day, there will be two major sessions: the first focusing on case studies from Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra regarding urban land records and management. The second session will review the use of survey techniques and spatial data across various government schemes and departments, including AMRUT, Smart Cities, SVAMITVA, the Haryana Space Applications Centre, IT & Communication (Jaipur), and the Directorate General of Defence Estates.

A Platform for Innovation in Urban Land Records

This workshop will set the foundation for a national program aimed at modernizing urban land records. It will also facilitate the design of pilot projects in selected cities and outline strategies for capacity building among urban local bodies and state officials. By integrating modern technologies into urban land governance, the workshop aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in land management systems. This platform will foster collaboration and innovation in the field of urban land records, helping to drive forward much-needed reforms.

Leveraging Spatial Tools and Drone Technology

India’s urban land records face several challenges, such as fragmentation, outdated data, and the involvement of multiple agencies. These issues complicate effective urban planning, land management, and service delivery. To address these problems, the Government of India is exploring the adoption of advanced technological solutions, building on the successes seen in rural areas. Key technologies, including spatial tools, satellite imagery, drone surveys, and GIS integration, will be vital in creating comprehensive, spatially enabled land ownership records.

Pilot Projects for Urban Areas

The primary objectives of this workshop are to showcase global best practices, introduce practical technological solutions, and facilitate the planning of pilot projects in selected urban areas. In addition to addressing challenges like standardization, data security, and capacity building, the workshop will promote collaboration between government officials, technology experts, and other stakeholders to develop actionable policy recommendations.
