The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra for the 2025 season. To ensure fair prices for farmers, the government had announced in the 2018-19 Union Budget that the MSP for all notified crops would be at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production. Accordingly, the MSP for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) of milling copra has been set at ₹11,582 per quintal, and for ball copra, at ₹12,100 per quintal for the 2025 marketing season.
The government has significantly increased the MSP for milling copra and ball copra from ₹5,250 and ₹5,500 per quintal in 2014 to ₹11,582 and ₹12,100 per quintal, respectively, for the 2025 marketing season. This represents a growth of 121% and 120%, showcasing the government’s commitment to supporting farmers.
The higher MSP will ensure better remunerative returns for coconut growers, encouraging them to enhance production to meet the increasing demand for coconut-based products in domestic and international markets.
Central Agencies to Oversee Procurement: The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) will continue to function as Central Nodal Agencies for the procurement of copra and de-husked coconut under the Price Support Scheme (PSS).
