Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, along with National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad will host a workshop on Application and Demonstration of Drone Technology in Fisheries and Aquaculture on November 8, 2024, at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi, Kerala. Hon’ble Minister of State, Shri George Kurian, along with distinguished scientists, state fisheries officials, and fishermen from Kerala, will attend. This event will also mark the official inauguration of the Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) National Symposium.

Over 700 Fishermen and Fisherwomen to Join the Workshop:

NFDB and innovative startups will give presentations on the transformative potential of drone technology in fisheries and aquaculture. The workshop will conclude with live demonstrations of drone applications in fish transport, feed distribution, and emergency rescue operations, including life jacket delivery. This platform will emphasize the pivotal role of drone technology in advancing the fisheries sector, maximizing productivity through innovation, and highlighting critical technological advancements. Over 700 fishermen and fisherwomen are expected to participate in this significant event.

Drone Technology’s Growing Importance in Fisheries:

The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) aims to promote sustainable, economically viable, and inclusive growth within fisheries and aquaculture. Integrating technology is key to providing end-to-end solutions in the supply and value chains. Drones offer innovative solutions to various challenges, including water testing, disease detection, activity monitoring, feed management, and fish transportation.

A New Era of Precision and Monitoring in Fisheries: Drones can also support aquaculture farm management, fish market inspections, structural damage assessments, and emergency rescue operations during natural disasters. Additionally, drones enhance precision fishing and stock assessments. Underwater drones further expand capabilities by monitoring fish behavior, identifying signs of distress, and assessing ecosystem health, ensuring better sustainability and efficiency in fisheries.
