Bihar's Agriculture Minister, Mangal Pandey, has revealed that the state will soon announce new vacancies for soil testing positions. These openings in the agriculture department will create opportunities for the youth of Bihar to work in soil testing laboratories. During a review of various agricultural schemes, the minister confirmed that the vacant positions would be filled shortly. Soil testing is scientifically accurate, beneficial, and environmentally friendly, as it helps monitor nutrient levels and provides precise fertilizer recommendations for various crops and crop rotations without harming the environment.
The upcoming vacancies will include 207 Assistant Research Officer positions, 75 Laboratory Assistant positions, 26 Assistant Director of Soil Testing positions, 22 Clerical positions, and several other roles. These appointments will be made soon to ensure the smooth operation of soil testing laboratories across the state’s nine divisions. This will enable effective soil sample testing, ultimately increasing crop yields.
Soil fertility plays a crucial role in determining crop yields. To maintain soil fertility and productivity in a specific area, it is essential to use fertilizers scientifically and in a balanced manner. Soil and fertilizers work complementarily to meet optimal nutrient requirements. Higher soil test values indicate a decreased need for fertilizers to achieve maximum response. Fertility can be enhanced through the use of organic and inorganic fertilizers. Nuclear techniques provide data that boost soil fertility and crop production while minimizing environmental impact. Green manure or leguminous plants can be used to fix nitrogen from the air through biological nitrogen fixation.
The Agriculture Minister highlighted the goal of testing a total of 500,000 soil samples from all villages in the state this financial year. Soil testing promotes the balanced use of fertilizers, maintains soil health, increases crop yields, and reduces farming costs. It also confirms nutrient status, warns of deficiencies, identifies the main reasons for poor plant performance, and monitors changes in soil health in response to land use and management changes.
Qualifications for the Jobs: Residents of Bihar have a great opportunity to secure jobs in the soil testing labs. To apply for these positions, candidates must have completed their 12th grade. Once the vacancies are announced, eligible candidates can apply.
