According to Maharishi Valmiki, Lord Rama worshipped the divine power, Adi Shakti, from Ashwin Pratipada (the first day) to Navami (the ninth day) at Rishyamook Mountain. On this day, Lord Rama began his journey from Kishkindha to Lanka and ultimately defeated Ravana, marking the victory of good over evil. The day is considered auspicious to spot a Neelkanth bird, as it is believed to represent Lord Shiva.
Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami because it commemorates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. The day is symbolic of the triumph of good over evil. According to scriptures, it is also the day when Goddess Sati immolated herself in the fire. Additionally, Dussehra marks the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of preparations for the completion of Chaturmas, the four-month period of spiritual discipline.
