For the year 2024-25, the government has invited applications for the construction of 154 warehouses, with 108 warehouses having a capacity of 100 metric tons and 46 warehouses with a capacity of 200 metric tons. The warehouses built under this scheme will be exclusively used for grain storage. Farmers eligible for this scheme can submit their applications online or through the mobile application starting from August 1, 2024, with the last date for submission being August 31, 2024.
Farmers often face various challenges from crop production to the storage of grains. A significant issue for many farmers is the lack of adequate storage facilities, leading to grain spoilage and substantial financial losses. These losses can be economically and mentally devastating for farmers. To address this issue, the Bihar government has introduced the Bihar Warehouse Construction Scheme. The primary goal of this scheme is to assist farmers by providing them with a secure storage facility for their grains. As the name suggests, this scheme encourages farmers to construct warehouses and offers financial assistance for the construction.
The Warehouse Construction Scheme, general category farmers can receive either ₹5,50,000 or 40% of the total cost as a subsidy for a 100 MT warehouse, whichever is less. SC/ST farmers can receive either ₹7 lakh or 50% of the total cost for a 100 MT warehouse. For a 200 MT warehouse, general category farmers are eligible for either ₹8 lakh or 40% of the total cost, while SC/ST farmers can receive either ₹10 lakh or 50% of the total cost, whichever is less. The subsidy for farmers from reserved categories will be provided in two installments.
