Heavy Rain Alert for West Bengal and Other Regions

The monsoon season has begun to establish itself across most parts of India, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Department, a red alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the next 24 hours. Additionally, an orange alert is in place for Assam and Meghalaya, indicating significant rainfall that could potentially cause disruptions.

Regions such as Goa, Konkan, northern interior Karnataka, Telangana, southern Chhattisgarh, and Odisha can expect light to moderate rainfall, with some areas likely to experience heavy downpours. Meanwhile, light rain is anticipated in Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Sikkim, northeastern India, southwestern Madhya Pradesh, southern Gujarat, and Jammu and Kashmir, offering a cooler respite to these areas.

Monsoon Rainfall in the Past 24 Hours:

The past 24 hours have seen substantial monsoon activity across various parts of the country. Notable rainfall was observed in many areas of Assam and Meghalaya, contributing to the overall monsoon pattern. Karnataka, Goa, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and parts of western Madhya Pradesh experienced light to moderate rain, aiding in soil moisture and cooling temperatures. Additionally, some regions in Rajasthan, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Sikkim saw scattered showers, signalling the widespread reach of the monsoon.

Intense Heat Persists in These States: Despite the onset of the monsoon, several northern states continue to endure intense heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heatwave conditions to persist in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana weather, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh until June 17-18. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against the high temperatures.

As the monsoon progresses, the weather patterns are expected to stabilize, bringing more consistent rainfall across the nation and easing the severe summer conditions that many regions have been experiencing.
