Weather Turmoil Across India: Rain, Hailstorms, and Dust Storm Warnings Issued; Drop in Temperature and Heat wave Alerts in Several States

Due to the influence of active western disturbances and cyclonic circulations, significant changes in weather patterns are being observed across various parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms in the coming days. Additionally, heatwave conditions and high humidity are expected in several regions.

Weather Shift in Northern India Due to Cyclonic Circulations:

  1. A western disturbance is currently active in the mid-tropospheric level, north of 74°E longitude and 26°N latitude.
  2. Upper air cyclonic circulations are present over northwest Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, northeastern Assam, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
  3. A surface trough extends from Rajasthan to Andhra Pradesh, contributing to unstable weather.
  4. On April 12, Uttarakhand is likely to witness moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.
  5. Thunderstorm activity with wind speeds of 50–60 km/h is expected today in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan.

Central and Western India: Hailstorm and Dust Storm Likely:

  • Hailstorms are anticipated in parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh on April 12.
  • Dust storms may occur in Rajasthan on the same day.
  • Between April 12 and 14, scattered rain and thunderstorm activity is expected across the plains of western, central, and eastern India.

Southern India Faces Rain and Humidity:

  • Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with lightning and strong winds over the next 7 days.
  • Weather is likely to remain unstable over Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka for the next 5 days.
  • Heavy rainfall is predicted over South Interior Karnataka and Kerala on April 12.
  • Hot and humid conditions will prevail today in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Temperature and Heatwave Forecast: In the next two days, maximum temperatures across northwest and central India may drop by 2–3°C, followed by a rise of 3–5°C afterward. A heatwave is expected in western Rajasthan on April 14–15, with severe heatwave conditions likely on April 16–17. Heatwave alerts have been issued for Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, and eastern Rajasthan between April 15 and 17.

Rainfall Report (Past 24 Hours): Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm activity was recorded in parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh. Hailstorms were reported in Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Weather, Nagaland, Jharkhand, and other regions.

Maximum and Minimum Temperatures: On April 11, the highest maximum temperature in the country was recorded at 42.8°C in Akola, Vidarbha. Minimum temperatures varied across different locations, with some being above or below normal. The lowest minimum temperature was 15.1°C, recorded in Nahan, Haryana.
