Rain and snowfall in the northwestern and northeastern Himalayan regions have led to a significant drop in temperatures. Several areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand have recorded temperatures near freezing, while the plains continue to experience rising temperatures. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures may increase by 2-4°C in the next three to four days.
On Saturday, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 0°C, signaling the return of cold conditions. Despite the chill, tourists were seen enjoying boat rides in Dal Lake. The IMD has warned of a western disturbance from February 17, which may bring rain and snowfall to Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between February 17-21. Some parts of Punjab and Haryana may also witness light rainfall.
February is generally known for its mild winter and pleasant weather, but this time, the afternoons have turned warmer with intense sunlight and hot winds. On Saturday, Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 29°C, which was 3.5°C above normal, while the minimum temperature reached 10.1°C.
The Meteorological Department has predicted light rainfall in western Uttar Pradesh on February 20, while eastern UP is expected to remain clear. Light fog may be observed during the morning hours. A new western disturbance is expected to be active on February 20-21, leading to further weather changes. After February 21, temperatures are likely to rise again.
