India is witnessing a seasonal shift as cooler weather approaches, with notable variations across regions. Due to Cyclone Dana, heavy rains and strong winds have impacted the southern states, while some areas continue to experience daytime warmth. However, temperatures are dropping in the early morning and nighttime hours, bringing a noticeable chill to the air indoors. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that mild winter conditions will start in early November in several parts of the country, with snowfall likely in northern mountainous regions, marking further seasonal changes.
West Bengal and Odisha, which have faced the brunt of Cyclone Dana over the past two days, are expected to see some relief starting today. Although the cyclone threat has receded, occasional rains will persist in these states. Meanwhile, certain parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala in the south are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Today, the skies over Delhi will remain mostly clear, with plenty of bright sunshine expected. According to the IMD, clear skies are forecast to continue through November 1, and nighttime temperatures could see a drop of 2-3 points in the coming days. Minimum temperatures in Delhi this week are expected to range between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) has been deteriorating daily, largely due to Diwali firecrackers. With Diwali approaching, air pollution levels are likely to worsen. On October 25, Delhi’s AQI averaged 270, indicating a “poor” level. Experts predict that this could exceed 300 as Diwali draws near, potentially raising concerns for the city’s residents.
