Milky white button mushrooms are cultivated across most northern parts of India. In southern India, they are grown on a commercial scale.
The size and texture of milky mushrooms are similar to those of white button mushrooms.
Milky mushroom cultivation requires high temperatures. The fungus needs 25-35 degrees Celsius and 80-90% humidity to thrive.
Begin by filling a small sack with chopped straw or rice husk and soaking it in clean water for at least 6 hours.
After soaking, immerse the sack filled with wet straw in boiling water for 40 minutes.
Remove the straw from the hot water and spread it on a clean floor to drain excess water and let it cool down.
Before spreading the straw, clean the floor and spray a 2% formalin solution (50 ml/liter of water) on it.
At this point, the straw should have a moisture content of 65-70%.
To check the moisture, squeeze a handful of straw, if water comes out, the moisture level is correct. This treated medium is now ready for sowing.
