The 2025-26 Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Yojana, which focuses on the 100 least productive agricultural districts in the country, where farming potential has remained limited. The government aims to convert barren and unused lands into fertile areas and enhance production capacity through modern agricultural techniques. The initiative will promote agricultural research and innovation, providing farmers with better seeds, modern technology, and water management practices. This will not only reduce the cost of farming but will also increase productivity, thereby improving farmers' incomes.
The scheme will directly benefit 1.75 crore farmers. The Finance Minister has allocated special provisions for adopting scientific crop rotation, improving soil fertility, and developing irrigation facilities. The plan includes cultivating crops in fields that previously had no cultivation, thereby increasing farming opportunities.
