Principal Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Rashmi Arun Shami, conducted a video conference on Thursday with the commissioners and collectors of Sagar and Shahdol divisions to review the preparations for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). She directed officials to ensure that high-quality wheat is procured from farmers and that payments for the procured wheat are made on time.
As per the directives of Food Minister Mr. Govind Singh Rajput, district-wise procurement preparations are being reviewed. The Principal Secretary emphasized that all necessary facilities should be provided at procurement centers and that the registration process should be made more convenient for farmers. So far, over 2.91 lakh farmers have registered for wheat procurement, with the final registration deadline set for March 31, 2025.
Wheat procurement in Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Narmadapuram divisions will take place from March 1 to April 18, 2025. In other divisions, the process will run from March 17 to May 5, 2025. This year, Madhya Pradesh is expected to produce 80 lakh metric tons of wheat. The Food Minister has instructed officials to ensure that farmers receive timely payments for their procured wheat. Additionally, pending warehouse payments will be cleared promptly.
The Director of the Food Department has emphasized the need for efficient transportation and storage of procured wheat. Adequate gunny bags must be available at procurement centers, and micro-planning should be implemented to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience.
Farmers will connect through social media: Managing Director of the State Civil Supplies Corporation, Mr. Anurag Verma, has urged officials to encourage more farmers to register for wheat procurement. Small and marginal farmers will be given priority in the slot booking system. Social media platforms will also be utilized to raise awareness among farmers and increase participation.
