This year, the festival of Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on the third day of Diwali. This festival preserves the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, symbolizing their unwavering love and affection for one another. It is celebrated annually during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the month of Kartik. Bhai Dooj is also known as Yam Dwitiya, as sisters pray to Lord Yamraj to protect their brothers from untimely death.
Bhai Dooj will begin on November 2, 2024, at 8:21 PM and will continue until November 3, 2024, at 10:05 PM. Therefore, Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
On Sunday, November 3, the auspicious period known as "Saubhagya Yoga" will last until 11:40 AM. After this, "Shobhan Yoga" will commence. The best time for celebrating Bhai Dooj will be until 11:45 AM. The afternoon period for rituals will be from 1:10 PM to 3:22 PM.
In Hinduism, the festival of Bhai Dooj holds special significance. It represents respect, affection, and unbreakable love between brothers and sisters. According to scriptures, on this day in the month of Kartik, Lord Yamraj visited his sister's home, where she welcomed him with love and hospitality. Pleased with her devotion, Yamraj blessed her, stating that any brother and sister who bathe in the Yamuna and worship him on this day would not go to Yamalok after death. It is customary to view the moon in the morning and take a holy dip in the Yamuna. After bathing, brothers should visit their sisters’ homes, honor them with gifts, and share a meal together.
